
The database section handles the all-electronic collection. The Vikram Sarabhai Library has more than 140 databases in its e-resources collection. In these databases have been divided in different categories i.e. Company & Industry, Economics & Statistics, Legal, Research Support Tools/Databases, News Papers & Magazines, E-Books, E-Journals, etc. Database section also maintain datasets i.e. Daily Rainfall Data – Ahmedabad Station (1975-2006 & 2012), Census of India-CD’s (1991, 2001 & 2011), etc.click here
Procedure of Database Procurement:
Step 1: Recommendation by Faculty, librarian and users.
Step 2: Inform library committee regarding recommendation.
Step 3: Trail base database acquired from vendor/publisher. (for 1 or 3 months, in case of some sensitive database trial period will be 1 week only.)
Step 4: Comparison and analysis of database.
Step 5: Feedback send to publisher/vendor. Step 6: Negotiation with publisher/vendor.
Step 6: Ask vendor/publisher for proform invoice.
Step 7: Analyse cost of database and that analysis file send to library committee.
Step 8: Take approval from Library Committee to acquire database.
Step 9: Make Database available for users to use within library and RemoteXS.
Step 10: Daily Verification of database.
Note: Few databases are offline, for use of that databases users need to come at library. Training session of database is done every year by vendor/publisher through library.

Database section Mr. Jignesh Amin gave us overview as well as whole process of database subscription, Mr. Shekappa Bandi, and Library trainee Ms.G.Menaka show us some databases and how it’s work. I understood some of terms and conditions between library and database publisher/vendor. I has compare two database. I found Top BSE listed companies and their profile through database.
